SOPHIA VANDYCKE :
MECHANICAL ENGINEER & PRODUCT DESIGNER

DSC03009.JPG

I am a creative person who enjoys finding unique solutions for engineering problems. As both a mechanical engineer and product designer, I have great passion for product development and blending design with engineering.

Through my work, research, and though my own sense of discovery I have become familiar with a wide variety of both electrical and mechanical components including those used in hydraulics and pneumatics as well as the theory of their uses in systems. I have also developed advanced knowledge and skills in drafting and computer-aided design, knowledge of mechanical components and design, mechanical drawing, product specifications, manufacturing processes, electrical wiring, and human factors.

I am a detail-oriented, hard-working problem solver, who thrives working in teams. I also see mechanical engineering as an interdisciplinary enterprise in which we help bring together different constituencies to help translate visions into dreams and dreams into reality.

I have my M.S. in Apparel Studies : Product Development–Wearable Technology, from the University of Minnesota and I received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Olin College of Engineering, in May 2016, where I focused on design and robotics.

In 2021 I gained a new title, that of "Mother". Being a mother has been a life changing experience and has provided me the opportunity to further develop communication and management skills that I am able to apply to other parts of my life, including my work.

On my free time I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family.
