PERFUME

One of the tasks for my Computer aided design class was to design a perfume bottle, name it, and create a bathroom scene to advertise the perfume. The bottle and bathroom furniture was created in SolidWorks and then imported into 3D Studio Max.

DESIGN

Since the early 20th century, the first sent most Cuban babies smell is that of violets. Violet cologne is what parents and grandparents gently cares onto a bays head with so much love as their child is as delicate, sweet, and special as the flower that gives the cologne its scent.

My family left Cuba in 1960 and with them came the tradition of applying the scent. Inspired by my family and the old Cuba, I chose to design a new brand of Cuban Violet cologne called La Flor de Cuba. Instead of using a modern bottle, I chose to follow the design of bottles from the 1960s and design a fragrance that will transport the users back through time.

The name of the company, La Bayamesa, was the name of my family’s candy company and the Cuban national anthem.

SCENE & LIGHTING

For my scene, I played with the lighting to ensure that the object and the room were well illuminated. To make sure that the reflection of the room in the mirror was not too dark, I added a fourth light that lights the back walls. Since I had many reflective surfaces, I also included all of the walls in the room.

MATERIALS

Settings for wood for the table and mirror frame.

To achieve the liquid material, I used the oil material and modified the color. The trickiest material was the glass. I wanted a frosted bottle, but the frosted material provided was not as opaque as I desired. To achieve the desired look, I chose a frosted coating instead of glass, and modified the image transparency and object translucency to give me the desired look.

The bottle is displayed of a mirrored perfume tray with a gold border. Although not visible in the product render, the table on which the tray and bottle are placed has a border around the bottom.  I also included a mirror that has decorative details that match those of the table. For the table, I learned about selecting image masks and scaling.
