TOLKIEN BOTTLES

ELF BOTTLE
DWARF BOTTLE
HOBBIT BOTTLE

For this project we worked in a group of three to make a collection of Tolkien inspired bomber bottles. There are a total of 3 bottles, one for each of the major races in the Tolkien universe, the Hobbits, the Elves, and the Dwarfs. This project involved the use of both SolidWorks and 3D Studio Max to create realistic renders of the bottles. My role in this project was to create all 3 of the bottles in SolidWorks, create the materials for all of the bottles in 3D Studio Max, and create the materials and set up the lighting and cameras for the Elf and Dwarf scenes.

I used this project to experiment with SolidWorks and further develop my skills. To create the elaborate embellishments of the elf bottle I had to learn how to make a braid and wrap it around the bottle. I also learn about materials in 3D Studio Max and how to manipulate their properties to get realistic renders.

DETAILS

All of the bottles have a volume of 22 Fluid Ounces. SolidWorks mass properties feature was used to ensure that all bottles held 22 Oz.

A combination of different light types and sources were used to achieved the desired look on 3D Studio Max. The scenery for the Dwarf bottle uses point, spherical, and spotlights to balance the lighting and ensure that the the bottle was visible.

To match the size of the bottle to the corresponding race, the bottles are scaled by height. The hobbits are the smallest, so this bottle is short and wide. The elves are tall, so the bottle is tall and thin. The dwarfs are between the two, so the bottle has a medium height and width.
