For the second project in Computer Aided Design we were asked to create a new Bluetooth speaker for Amazon. The speaker I created was a new, touch screen version of the Amazon Echo.
* This project was completed four months before the Echo Show was announced.
Like the Amazon Echo, the volume is controlled either by command or by a spinning ring on the top. This feature is afforded by an internal gear on the ring which spins a gear connected to a potentiometer. There is an additional spinning ring that allows one to scroll through the screen. The new ring also has a mode/input button and a home button.
This speaker is a modification of the existing Amazon Echo and is meant to provide an all new smart home experience.
The same height and depth of the original Echo, this smart home secretary is wider to include an extra set of speakers and a touch screen display. The Echo Prime comes in the new white anodized aluminum that was released in the Fall of 2016.
The touch screen is a new feature that allows you to interact with Alexa in a new way. Any task that Alexa can accomplish (i.e. calendar, shopping list, purchases) can be displayed. When it comes time for ordering, the top 10 items for your search will show, allowing you to see and choose the item you want before purchasing.
The touch screen can also display information on playing music or function as a digital photo gallery. The music and photos can be connected to Prime over WiFi through the Alexa app or over Bluetooth.
CONCEPT
Just like the Echo dot, Prime can easily be disassembled to allow for customization. To chance the cover, remove the 6 screws at the bottom, detach the cable, and slide the current cover off. The rims stay thin and easy to remove as they are not directly fastened to the system. There is a lip on each side of the cover which correspond to lips on the base and lid of the Echo Prime.
There are a total of 4 speakers; 2 tweeters and 2 full range speakers to provide an optimum listening experience.
